Patty Tolbert Akins, 75, of Carthage passed away on Sunday morning, Feb. 21, 2016, in Carthage. She was born on Sept. 30, 1940, in Henderson County, TX, to the late Emmett and Lois Penny Tolbert. Mrs. Akins graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1959. She married C.E. "Brodie" Akins on June 24, 1966, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church near Carthage. Mrs. Akins was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nina Caldwell and Charlcie Merle McCartney; brother, Ken Tolbert; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Jones.
Survivors include her loving husband, C.E. "Brodie" Akins of Carthage; son, Dean Jones and wife Tanya of Carthage; sister-in-law, Barbara Tolbert of Marshall; niece, Lori Tolbert of Marshall; nephews, Jason Tolbert and wife Rachel of Henderson, Chad Jones and wife Mary of Carthage, and Andy Jones of Coweta, OK; and her loving kitty cat, Smokie.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Carl Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gene Giles, Bryan Murff, Randy Liedtke, Mark Dawson, Jake Vanover, Ross Johnson, Guy Bunyard, Duane Baushke, Mike Ross, and Dennis LaGrone.
Honorary pallbearers are the Carthage Fire Department.
