Patricia Ann
Nail
March 28, 1948 – July 27, 2022
Patricia Ann Nail, 74, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, July 27, 2022, in Tyler, TX. Patricia was born on March 28, 1948, in Ft. Worth, TX to the late Lloyd and Ann Katsak Thornton. She graduated from Paschal High School in Ft. Worth with the class of 1966. Pat earned a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics from Baylor University in 1970 and a Masters Degree in Nutrition and Biochemistry from Texas Women's University in Denton, TX in 1978. Patricia met the love of her life, Roland Nail, Jr., while at Baylor University, and they were married on January 24, 1970, in Ft. Worth. After graduation, Roland entered the US Air Force and they lived at Reese AFB Texas, Randolph AFB Texas, Clark Air Base Philippines, and Kelly AFB Texas. Their daughter Shelly was born in August, 1972 while at Randolph AFB. Their daughter Karen was born in May, 1974 during their two-year tour in the Philippines. After separation from active duty in 1975, Patricia and Roland lived in Arlington, Texas for 35 years. Patricia's parents and siblings lived in the Fort Worth area, so she and her family were able to see them often. In 2011 after Roland's retirement, they moved to the family farm outside of Carthage, Texas.
Patricia had a life-long love for nutrition and health. As a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, she provided nutritional counseling to her family, friends, and many others. In addition, Patricia taught school, was a co-owner of a business called Foresight Foods in Arlington, TX, and she worked in the family business, Thornton Steel Company in Fort Worth, TX. Also, Patricia was a shareholder and served as a current board member of Southview Corporation, a commercial real estate venture in Corpus Christi, Texas. Although Patricia spent time working outside of the home, the majority of her time was focused on taking care of her family.
After moving to Panola County in 2011, Patricia became an avid bird-watcher and joined the Texas Bluebird Society. She and Roland were active members and participated in many events to promote the organization. Patricia was a former officer of the Texas Bluebird Society and currently served on the Board of Directors. Patricia thoroughly enjoyed tending to the many bluebird nest boxes that are scattered all over their farm. Patricia's love of animals extended beyond birds. She and Roland also enjoyed tending to their cattle, dogs, and cats.
Patricia was involved in her community. While in Arlington, she was active in her church as a choir member, the intercessory prayer ministry, and in the children's ministry. She served as a leader in her children's Girl Scout troops, and she was active in her children's activities. She started in Bible Study Fellowship and continued in this activity for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Fort Worth Women's Club. She was a current member of the Central Baptist Church in Carthage, where she sang joyfully in the choir.
Patricia and Roland were avid Baylor fans and supporters. They were season ticket holders for Baylor football and Baylor mens and womens basketball. They loved their tailgating group and had many memorable occasions attending Baylor sporting events and other Baylor functions.
Patricia loved the Lord and was not shy about sharing the Gospel with others. She and Roland went on several mission trips overseas to Ukraine, Armenia, The Republic of Georgia, Romania, and Bulgaria. She and Roland traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Two of her most enjoyable trips were to Israel, Egypt, and Greece in 1983 and to lower South America and Antarctica in 2009.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Roland Nail; daughter, Shelly Weber and husband Fred; daughter, Karen Coulter; brother, Robert Thornton and wife Margie; sister, Cheryl Surber and husband Charles; and granddaughter, Jenna Weber. Patricia is also survived by her 103-year-old mother-in-law, Phala Mae Nail, for whom she provided care in recent years. She loved her as if she was her own mother and took great pride in taking care of her.
