Paneltha Brown, 79, of Longview, TX, passed away on Monday night, Jan. 15, 2018, in Longview. Paneltha D. Roberts Brown was born on May 28, 1938, in The Carthage/Walnut Grove Community to the late Baker and Thelma Hicks Roberts, the third of 11 children. She received her early education from Walnut Grove School and Turner High School in Carthage. She earned a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M and a master's degree from S.F.A. both in home economics and nutrition. In her early career, she taught at Southside and Westside Elementary Schools in Carthage. In the late 1960's, she became an extension agent for Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service. She proudly served the communities of Linden and Henderson, retiring in 2002, after a successful career. She accepted the Lord at an early age at Walnut Grove Baptist Church near Carthage. As a talented pianist, she played for church choirs at Walnut Grove, New Haven, Antioch, and many other congregations. She loved to sing and play spiritual songs she learned during her childhood. In 1963, she was joined in holy matrimony to William Brown. This union was blessed with 3 children. Paneltha was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, George A. Roberts and Osfra Dean Roberts.

Survivors include her husband, William Brown of Longview; children, Pamela Brown and William Brown, Jr. both of Longview and Sabrina Rascoe of Carthage; brothers, Rayford Roberts and Baker Roberts, Jr. both of Carthage, Roy Roberts (Barbara) of Farmingdale, NY, and Rev. Kirthell Roberts (Gwen) of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Mary Roberts of Hempstead; sisters, Cleotha Brewster of Round Rock, Florida King (Raymond) of Carthage, Annie Webb (Robert) of Kempner, and Debra Wade (Glen) of Carthage; 6 grandchildren, Mykia Pauley, Willena L. Brown, William Rogers, Malik Rascoe, Serena  Rascoe, and Tarik Rascoe; and 5 great-grandchildren, Laterion Pauley, Mariah Pauley, Jaylen Dansby, Dequinn Dansby, Yoma L. Misaghi.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Malik Rascoe, William Rogers, Shannon Brown, James Bonner, Jr., Daron Roberts, and Jermaine Wade.

Honorary pallbearers are Rayford Roberts, Roby Roberts, Nesbit Brown, Jr., Baker Roberts, Jr., and Rev. Kirthell Roberts.
