Ouida Pope, 93, of Carthage, passed away on Thursday morning, May 18, 2017, in Carthage. Ouida D. Jenkins Pope was born on March 20, 1924, in Beckville to the late Claude and Lessie Jane Tompkins Jenkins. She attended Beckville schools and graduated from Beckville High School. After school, Mrs. Pope worked at a restaurant in Carthage and later in the shipyards in Houston. Mrs. Pope later owned and operated a business in Longview for many years. She married J.D. Pope on March 9, 1962, in Fairfield and he preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2004. Her hobbies included vegetable gardening, cooking, and watching westerns. Mrs. Pope was also preceded in death by her brother, C.L. Jenkins; sister, Delta Lee "Tot" Harris; and a nephew, Selden Cohen.

Survivors include her sister, Hulene Cohen of Shreveport; nephews, Ronny Harris and wife Linda of Fairplay and Pete Cohen and wife Shelley of Bossier City; nieces, Diane Harris and husband David of Beckville, Sylvia May of Beckville, and Mary Brack and husband Levy of Lexington, SC; nephews, David Jenkins of Rowlett and Donnie Jenkins of Baton Rouge. A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Pope.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Phil Hodson officiating. Interment will follow in Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Daniel Allred, Michael Harris, Levy Brack, Pete Cohen, and David Harris.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Winkler Place and Hearts Way Hospice and her caretaker, Mrs. Linda Harris for the loving care shown to Mrs. Pope.
