Funeral services for Mrs. Ophelia Brown, age 79 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Pennington and Reverend Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown passed away on Wednesday morning, November 7, 2007 in Tyler, Texas.
Ophelia Franks Brown was born on March 29, 1928 in Ridge, Texas in Robertson County to Lewis Dee and Josephine Renner Franks. She graduated from Tenaha High School and married William Dale Brown on October 5, 1946 in Tenaha. Mrs. Brown worked at Carthage Furniture Company for many years. She had lived in Carthage since 1955, moving from Tenaha. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage where she participated in the outreach ministry at Winkler House, taught Sunday school, and participated with the LOGOS children's program. Mrs. Brown also volunteered at the Carthage Primary School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who passed away on January 9, 1983; two sisters, Alma Autrey and Lucile Cade; and one brother, Buster Franks.
Mrs. Brown is survived by one son, Barry Brown and wife Terri of Livingston; one daughter, Paula Carter and husband Steve of Carthage; five grandchildren, Garth LaGrone of White Oak, Shannon LaGrone of Mesquite, Carly Brown of Livingston, Kristi Baksht and husband Jon of Houston, and Ken Carter of Carthage; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan Brown of Livingston, Joshua McMurray of Mesquite, Will and Charles Baksht of Houston. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Brown.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Holmes, Dean Jones, Don Clinton, Jon Almeida, Randy Harris, and Bryan Murff. Serving as honorary pallbearers are all the other young men that worked with Mrs. Brown at Carthage Furniture Company over the years.
