Funeral services for Mrs. Ola Mae Cockrell, age 87 years, of Carthage, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Freddy Mason officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Cockrell passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 in Carthage, Texas.
Ola Mae Bellamy Cockrell was born on March 18, 1919 in Panola County, Texas to James Benjamin and Martha Ola Threatt Bellamy. She married Wesley Allen Cockrell on December 2, 1939. Mrs. Cockrell was a clerk at Massey's Sporting Goods for 20 years. She loved cooking, canning, and taking care of her grandchildren. She took care of everyone. Mrs. Cockrell had lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, on September 18, 1983, her daughter, Martha Pierce on May 5, 1991; one brother, Thurmon Bellamy; and three sisters, Blanche Youngblood, Ella Downs, and Omie Bowen.
Mrs. Cockrell is survived by one son, Thomas Cockrell and wife Judy of Gary, Texas; one sister, Hazel Eddy of Clyde, Texas; six grandchildren, Wayne Pierce and wife Laura of Carthage, James Pierce of Carthage, Rhonda LaGrone and husband Dennis of Carthage, Donna Bell and husband Chris of Carthage, Connie Browning and husband Robert of Winnsboro, and Sharon Hastings and husband David of Longview; and numerous great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive Mrs. Cockrell.
Serving as pallbearers are Dennis LaGrone, Chris Bell, Robert Browning, David Hastings, James Youngblood, and James Pierce. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Wayne Pierce.
