O. C. Powell, 87, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Wednesday morning, Dec. 21, 2022, at his home. Obed Collier "O.C." Powell was born on Jan. 12, 1935, in Carterville, Cass County, TX to the late Obed and Clara Elizabeth Watson Powell. Mr. Powell served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He owned and operated a Texaco station in Carthage for many years. O. C. later worked for the Grady Nutt family for over 17 years until his retirement. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Ann Schachtschneider, Myrtis "Mutt" Doss, W.J. "Dub" Powell, Leroy Powell, and Ruth Green and step-sons, George and Michael Ross.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis Powell; children, Larry Don Powell and wife Nan, Carolyn Sue Harrigan and husband Tim, and Debra Jean Hunter; sister, Lillie Mae "Mae Mae" Hampton; grandchildren, Chris Powell and wife Sandra, Missy Atkerson and husband Mark, Nicole Koenigsfeld and husband Josh, Katie Harrigan Manchaca and husband Jonathan, Richard Morton, Timothy Harrigan and wife Lauren, Patrick Hunter and wife Taylor, Jeffrey Benbenek and wife Kristin, Matthew Hunter, and Michael Hunter and wife Caroyma;  great-grandchildren, Chase, Brittany, Madeline, Sophia, Lola Kate, Collier, Michael, Kendall, Chelsea, Kendrick, Elizabeth, Christopher, McKenzie, Tatum, Olive, Leona, Kloe, Kyle, Matthew, Bryce, Michael, and Jason; great-great-grandchildren, Maddox and Carsyn; step-son, Ricky Ross; step-grandchildren, R.J. and Kristina Ross; sisters-in-law, Mary Hill, Ilene Stewart, and Patsy Stewart; and brother-in-law, Ray Stewart and wife Nancy. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Powell.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Freddy Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Timothy Harrigan, Jonathan Manchaca, Chris Powell, Mark Atkerson, Chase Powell, Patrick Hunter, and Jeffrey Benbenek.

Honorary pallbearers are Richard Morton, Michael Hunter, and Matthew Hunter.
