Graveside Services for Mr. O. W. Matthews, age 93 of Tatum, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 at Tatum, Cemetery in Tatum, Texas with Brother Trey Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Tatum Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Matthews passed away on Wednesday morning June 28, 2006 at his home in Tatum.

Oliver Williams Matthews was born on September 12, 1912 in Tatum, Texas to A. P. Matthews, Sr. and Delia C. Conway Matthews. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tatum and a life long resident of Tatum. He owned and operated Matthews Grocery and Feed in Tatum, owned livestock auction barns in Tatum and Magnolia, Mississippi. Mr. Matthews was a horse and mule trader most of his life and served on the Tatum School Board for many years. He married Willard M. Williams on December 17, 1931 in Texarkana, Arkansas. The family wishes to thank his caregivers Belinda, Delores, Bess, Joy, Shirley, Carla, and Heartsway Hospice of Longview. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Thomas Alvarez.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Willard Matthews of Tatum; four sons, Paul Matthews and wife Ouida of Longview, Richard Matthews of Tatum, Joe Matthews of Tatum, and Gus Matthews of Houston; sister, Ivy Dee Bassett of Henderson; five grandchildren, Carla Rodgers of Tatum, Paula Matthews of Longview, Jim Oliver Matthews of Tatum, Olivia Matthews of Dallas, and Pierce Matthews of Tatum; and five great-grandchildren.
