Funeral services for Mr. Norman E. Bowman, age 78, of Beckville, TX, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Martin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Bowman passed away on Monday night, Jan. 24, 2011, in Longview.
Norman Eugene Bowman was born on June 29, 1932, in Alexandria, VA to Jerome Newton and Sally Townsend Bowman. He attended high school in Alexandria. Mr. Bowman served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1977, retiring as a MSGT. He married Gloria Faye McDowell on Aug. 18, 1951, in Dallas. Mr. Bowman loved golfing and fishing. He moved to Beckville in 1992, from Lake Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Brownie.
Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria McDowell Bowman of Beckville; one son, Eugene Bowman and wife Brenda of Forney; one daughter, Terry Bell and husband David of Henderson, CO; one brother, Jerry Bowman and wife Jayne of Alexandria, VA; one sister, Barbra Portch of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Adam France and wife Ami, Lucas France and wife Laura, and Natalia and Jackson Bowman; and three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ayden, and Kyrra France. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Bowman.
Serving as pallbearers are Adam France, Lucas France, David Bell, Eugene Bowman, Terry Burns, and Eric Payne.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Hoyt Kelly, Hugh Martin, Ralph Williams, Bill Bailey, and Tom Akins.
