Nelda Jean Conway, age 82, of Gary, Texas, passed away on Friday evening, January 9, 2026, in Carthage, Texas. She was born on December 16, 1943, in DeBerry, Texas to James Herman Barton, Sr. and Laura Lurine Shadowens Barton. Nelda is fondly remembered for her love of cooking and the delicious meals she prepared. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gregory Conway, her parents; her daughter, Brenda Conway; her sons, Jeff Conway, Randy Conway, and Charles Conway; her granddaughter, Brendon Conway; and her brother James Barton, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, David Conway, Jayson Conway, Matthew Conway, Jayke Conway, Natasha Stiles, and Trina Mize.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Pierce Cemetery near Carthage under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
