Obituary

Naomi Bowen, age 98, of Gary, Texas, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025, in Carthage, Texas. Naomi Dean Webster was born in her grandparents, John and Elizabeth Webster's home, on August 28, 1926, in Glencoe, Kentucky to her late parents, Charley Goble and Creola Suez Hurlbut Webster. Her father was a tobacco farmer in Glencoe and her mother was born in Waller, Texas. Naomi enjoyed taking sewing and cooking classes while in school in Kentucky. She loved spending time with her family especially during the holidays. She worked at grocery stores and in cosmetics for many years and later as a baby sitter when she realized the baby sitter was making more than she was. In 1950, Naomi met the man she would marry, Clifford Carlis "C.C." Bowen, Sr. and on October 10, 1950, they were wed in Houston, Texas. You might say that it was love at first site. She and Clifford were blessed to have five children, Anna Jean, Clifford Jr., Charley L., Billy Ray, and Larry Joe and they were loved dearly. Naomi loved Bible studies, working with flowers, gardening, canning vegetables, sewing, and baking special cakes for the family especially on their birthdays. During her early years in Glencoe, she gave her heart to Jesus and was Baptized in the Ohio River by Rev. Johnson at age 15 along with others in her family. She would tell you to "believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be ok and smile." She taught Sunday school to children in Ecuador during her 4 years that she lived in South America. As an adult, she worked at National Biscuit Company for 3 years before accepting a long distance operator position with Southwestern Bell Co. in Houston. Naomi and C.C. bowled on teams for exercise and in her early years she enjoyed playing softball. They loved to take RV's traveling and camping. She and Clifford moved to Gary from Tomball, Texas to build a home on the lake so the children could come up and enjoy the country and fishing. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Gary before it closed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clifford C. Bowen, Sr.; children, Clifford C. Bowen, Jr., Anna Jean Bowen, Larry Joe Bowen, and Billy Ray Bowen and siblings, R.A. Webster, C.K. Webster, Doris Buchanan, Anna Sue Ross, and Vernon E. Webster.

She is survived by her son, Charley Lester Bowen; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive Mrs. Bowen.
