Monroe “Buck” Russom, 81, of Carthage, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026.
Monroe “Buck” Russom, was born on February 1, 1945, in Winnsboro, Texas, to the late Archie Monroe Russom and Cora Jewel Buck Russom. He was raised in Winnsboro, where he attended local schools. In 1977, Buck made Carthage his home, where he later met and married the love of his life, Laurie Elaine Harris. They were united in marriage on August 2, 1979, in Carthage and shared 30 wonderful years together before Elaine preceded him in death on November 5, 2009. Buck was dedicated to his career in the Oil and Gas industry, where he earned respect through his strong work ethic, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and the wisdom he offered to those around him. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with those he loved. Whether he was fishing, hunting, working outdoors, watching sports, his lifelong passion for race cars and anything with speed, or simply sharing stories with family and friends, he cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories. He will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, dependable nature, and the love he gave so freely. Although he wasn’t someone who attended church regularly, his faith in God was deeply personal. He is proceeded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Elaine Russom; and his son, Michael Monroe Russom.
He is survived by his children, Elaine Struthers and husband, Dave, Michael Russom (deceased) and wife Nicole, Melanie Harris and husband, Kenny, Crystal Chapman and husband, Chappy, and Sarah Barr and husband, Thomas. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a many special friends who felt more like family, all of whom he loved dearly and who brought him immense joy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Melissa Walters and her dedicated staff, as well as the compassionate caregivers of Heart's Way Hospice, for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Mr. Russom during his final days.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Matt Comer officiating. Interment will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers are Carson Chapman, Gus Harris, Woodrow Harris, Konner Harper, Scotty Bryce, Jeremy Adams, Aaron Adams, Joshua Adams, Dylan Spears, Jeff Spears, and Jerry Johnson.
If desired, the family requests memorial donations be made in Mr. Russom’s name to Heart’s Way Hospice, 437 W. Panola, Carthage, Texas 75633
