Funeral services for Mr. Mike Daniel, age 89 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Pete Williams officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery under the auspices of Longview V.F.W. Post # 4002. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Daniel passed away on Sunday morning, May 25, 2008 at his home near Carthage.
Mike Daniel was born on February 14, 1919 in Gary, Texas to J. B. and Maggie Bernice Worsham Daniel. Mr. Daniel graduated from Gary High School. He served his country in the United States Army Combat Engineers during WWII where he fought during D-Day and stormed Utah Beach. During his service, Mike attained the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Daniel worked all over the United States as a heavy equipment operator in pipeline construction. After retirement, Mike loved traveling in his Winnebago with family and friends. He called Panola County home all of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gary. Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Robbie Daniel who passed away on August 5, 1980 and Velma Daniel who passed away on September 8, 2004; and one brother, Pat Daniel on July 20, 1996.
Mr. Daniel is survived by two sons, Tommy Graves and wife Bonnie of Tyler and Johnny Graves of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren, Jaime Calhoun and husband Michael, Johonna Stanley and husband Bob, Juli Graves, Teresa Owen and husband Paul, and Tomi Ann Swaim and husband Eric; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother-in-law, H. T. Worthington and wife Fern of Lake Charles; a cousin, Blue Daniel and wife Ann; and four special caregivers, Barbara Floyd, Bonnie Davis, Jean Williams, and Debra Carr all of Beckville.
Serving as pallbearers are Keith Worthington, Roy Wood, Michael Calhoun, Bob Stanley, Eric Swaim, and Jimmy Pierce.
