Michael James Rhodes, 63, of DeBerry, TX, passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at his home in DeBerry. He was born Oct. 26, 1957, in Shreveport, LA, to the late Joseph Lee Rhodes, Sr. and Merrell Midyett Rhodes. He graduated from Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport with the class of 1975, and attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Michael worked as a fluid engineer and consultant in the oil and gas industry primarily in offshore and international drilling, specializing in the creation and application of environmental chemicals.

He was happiest at his farm in DeBerry where he enjoyed planting trees, the harvesting of wildlife and the preservation of habitat, having partnered with the state in numerous conservation programs. He spent many years as a successful dog breeder, and is survived by his dogs, Precious and Knucklehead. He was proud of his years as a Boy Scout, which led to his lifelong interest in the outdoors. Michael was a gourmet cook and would spend days preparing meals for his friends to enjoy. He was also a history buff, especially interested in the history of the Confederacy.

He is survived by his sister, Carrie Rhodes Babin and husband Dana of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; brother, Joseph Lee Rhodes; nephew, Luke Babin; and niece, Braegan Babin. He is also mourned by his former wife, Belinda Edwards.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Long and Luke Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Six Mile Cemetery with Rev. Jennene Laurinec officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. The family would like to invite everyone to Mike's home following his services.

Pallbearers are Clay Chapman, Brian Blackwell, John Cowen, Paul Jarratt, Jeremy Bradley, Luke Babin, Devyn Pennington, and Aaron Bruce.

Honorary pallbearers are Pat Stephens, Jerry Pennington, Jerry Escude, Loren Worley, and Stanley Krutilek.
