Mercedes McMillian, 98, of Carthage, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 4, 2018, at her home in Carthage. She was born on Oct. 15, 1919, in Carthage to the late Henry McMillian and Effie Mitchell. She lived most of her life in Carthage and was a member of Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Romeo Parker; granddaughter, Romona Parker; grandson, Kedrick Parker; great-granddaughter, Khloe Reign Moore; brothers, Otis and Leno McMillian; and sisters, Ruthie Mae McMillian and Corine Marshall.

Survivors include daughters, Shelia Parker and husband Nakita of Tyler and Paula Parker of Carthage; sons, John Wayne McMillian and wife Anna of South Carolina, Sammy McMillian and wife Beverly of Beckville, and Earl McMillian and wife Retha of Center; brothers, Edward McMillian and wife Morlee of Houston and Edgar McMillian and wife Barbara of Shreveport; special friend, Sandra Jones of Carthage; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lymessia Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
