Visitation for Melvin A. Rodgers, age 78 of the Fairplay Community will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. An interment of ashes service will be held at 2:00 p.m. the following Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Conley Cemetery in the Fairplay Community. Mr. Rodgers passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his residence.
Melvin A. Rodgers was born on July 15, 1927 in Gary, Texas to Jesse and Edna Frances Collins Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers attended Gary schools and worked as a truck driver for Missouri Pacific for twenty five years. He served his country in the United States Armed Services and was honorably discharged. Mr. Rodgers married Betty Havranek on July 17, 1978 in Houston, Texas. He loved trail riding and motorcycles. Mr. Rodgers had lived in Panola County for the past ten years coming from Houston. Mr. Rodgers was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife, Betty Rodgers of the Fairplay Community; four sons, two daughters, one brother, Adrian Rodgers and wife Virginia of Houston; one sister, Tennessee Singletary of Marshall; seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
