Obituary

A funeral service for Mrs. Mattie Sue Grimes, age 79, of the Riderville Community in Panola County, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kirby Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Grimes passed away on Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2013, in Carthage.

Mattie Sue Murphy Grimes was born on Nov. 28, 1933, in Gary, TX to Alvin and Mattie Moore Murphy. Mrs. Grimes graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1951. She married Waymon Cecil Grimes, Sr. on June 14, 1951, in Arkansas. She lived most of her life in Panola County and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the PEP Sunday school class. Mrs. Grimes was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Earnestine Davis; and a twin sister, Hattie Lou Garrett.

Mrs. Grimes is survived by her husband of 61 years, W. C. Grimes of Riderville; four children, Susan Briggs and husband Wayne of Kilgore, Debbie Romero and husband Joe of Riderville, Sonny Grimes and wife Joan of Riderville, and Patricia Hardin and husband Tony of Humble; one brother, Robert Lee Murphy and wife Marguerite of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Chad Briggs and wife Gena, Shelly Briggs, J.W. Romero and wife Susannah, Joshua Romero, Kooter Romero and wife Brie, Jason Grimes and wife Jessica, and Christina Ward and husband Paul; ten great-grandchildren, Megan Lammons, Ariel and Cayden Briggs, J.T. and Madison Romero, Rodey Lane Romero, Austin and Paisley Grimes, and Zoe and Zivi Ward; a special caregiver, Janice Hughes; and a special niece, Lexie Ellis. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Grimes.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason Grimes, J.W. Romero, Joshua Romero, Kooter Romero, Chad Briggs, and Paul Ward.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Wayne Beason, Barry Wayne Bush, Herb Hudson, Curt Harless, Poncho Barnett, Dustin Williams, Gaylon Grimes, and Robert Lee Murphy.
