Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lou Green Tatum, age 92, formerly of Carthage, TX, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 27, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Mrs. Tatum passed away on Friday, Apr. 22, 2016, in Winston-Salem, NC.
Mary Lou Green Tatum was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Mound, TX to the late William Felson and Mary Amanda Mounce Green. She graduated from Gatesville High School. Mrs. Tatum earned her Registered Nursing diploma from Parkland Hospital in Dallas, her Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston, and her Masters from Stephen F. Austin University. She enlisted as a nurse in World War II where she earned the rank of first lieutenant. She served as a school nurse for Carthage Public Schools for over thirty-three years. She was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church, Carthage Book Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Sorority. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Lionel Tatum.
She is survived by a son, John Tatum and wife Mary Ann of White Oak and daughter Susan Edge of Winston- Salem, North Carolina; grandchildren Mike and Emily West of Lubbock, Brian and Jana Tatum of Newton, and Amanda Edge and husband Billy Ward of New York City; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are John Crisp, Dennis Smith, Jerry Bazer, Brian Tatum, Mike West, and Jerome Davis.
