Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Zell Holland Halvorson, age 86, of Pflugerville, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., Jan. 12, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel, 1131 SH 149, Carthage, TX with Rev. Lynn Loe officiating. Interment will follow in Waldrop Cemetery near the Fair Play Community in Panola County, TX. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mrs. Halvorson passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, in Round Rock.

Mary Zell Holland Halvorson was born on Apr. 27, 1924, in the Fair Play Community to the late Colbert C. Holland and Lucy Harris Holland. Mary graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1942 and obtained her cosmetologist license in 1968. She worked at J.C. Penney in Austin until she retired in 1989. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing on courses throughout Texas. She also enjoyed shuffleboard and had many friends in the Table Shuffleboard Association until a stroke in 2001, prevented her from playing either sport. During the last 9 ½ years she was cared for in her home in Pflugerville by her family. Mrs. Halvorson was preceded in death by her brother, Matthew Harris Holland, who died on March 31, 1928.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Sherriel Kaye Halvorson and Holly Ann Nance and husband Larry Ray Nance all of Pflugerville; three sisters, Nelda Jo McComack of Arlington, Maudeen Peters of Fair Play, and Elizabeth Ruth Jordan and husband Edgar D. Jordan of Tyler; two brothers, Colbert Royce Holland and wife Dorothy of Frost and William Mitchell Holland and wife Darla of Tyler; three grandchildren, Christopher Cantwell and Alicia Lynn and Melanie Marie Brannon; one aunt, Velma Holland of Fair Play; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the hospice staff of Odyssey for their care and kindness and Serenity Home Care for their loving care of Mary during her last weeks. Also thanks to Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home of Carthage for their kindness and support in bringing her home.

A remembrance gathering will be held in Pflugerville on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Holly Ann Nance. Mary's friends from the Austin and Pflugerville area are invited to join the family in a celebration of Mary's life on this day.

Serving as pallbearers are Randall Peters, Tim McComack, Paul McComack, Joshua McComack, Christian McComack, and Sonny Harris.
