Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Hill LaFollette, age 85 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September, 8, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Stephen Wiggins and Mark Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. LaFollette passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2007 in Carthage.

Mary Elizabeth Bourn Hill LaFollette was born on August 21, 1922 in Amarillo, Texas, the youngest of six children, to John Wesley and Mattie Kate Kincannon Bourn. Mary attended Canyon High School where she participated in drum corps and volleyball. During her freshman year, she was voted homecoming queen. She graduated from Canyon High School with the class of 1940. After graduation, she attended West Texas College. She married Fairy Hill on December 26, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1945 while serving his country during World War II. She married Edwin Metz LaFollette on May 23, 1947 in Raton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1986. Mrs. LaFollette worked as a Principal's Secretary with Carthage Independent School District at the Koonce School for many years. She always took care of the children as her own, treating their cuts and scratches with band aides and love. She had lived in Carthage since 1967 moving from Seminole, Texas. She was a member of the Carthage Church of Christ. Mrs. LaFollette was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Bill Bourn; three sisters, Marguerite Strain, Jennie Burrus, and Sarah McNeill; and one son-in-law, Jim Brewster.

Mrs. LaFollette is survived by two sons, Steve Hill and wife Jana of Seminole, Texas and Collin LaFollette and wife Jackie of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Katy Scroggins and husband Don of McKinney, Texas and Sherry Brewster of Carthage, Texas; six grandchildren, Kelley Hill of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eric Brewster and wife Ashley and Derek Brewster all of Carthage, Texas, Chris Gorman of Paris, Texas, Sean Hill of Seminole, Texas, and Ryan Hill of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five great-grandchildren, Marki Hill, Chris Hearn, Brendan Hill, McKenzie Hill, and Brooks Brewster; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Kelley Hill, Sean Hill, Eric Brewster, Derek Brewster, Chris Gorman, and Ryan Hill. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Edd Finklea, Leland Caffey, Bill Tatum, Keith Scott, Kevin Smith, and John Crisp.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. LaFollette's caretakers, Mary Glasper, Vera Roberts, and Nella Johnson. They would also like to thank Tippitt Soape, Ginger Adams, and the staff at the Winkler House for their loving care.
