Obituary

Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Hammett Graves, age 81, of the Old Center Community in Panola County, Texas, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Old Center Cemetery with Rev. James Bradley officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church of Tenaha prior to the graveside service. Mrs. Graves passed away on Tuesday afternoon, September 14, 2010, in Nacogdoches.

Mary Frances Hammett Graves was born on February 3, 1929, in Shreveport to Eldred and Mary Frances Gill Hammett. She graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Louisiana and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Mrs. Graves married June Iris Graves on January 18, 1947, in Marshall, Texas and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1997. She and Mr. Graves moved to the Old Center Community in 1962, from Deer Park, Texas. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tenaha where she served as the pianist for many years, was a member of the adult Sunday school class, and served on the administrative board. Mrs. Graves also played the piano at Old Center Baptist Church for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eldred Lynn Smith and Virginia Reichhardt; and one granddaughter, Amanda Fleming.

Mrs. Graves is survived by three daughters, Gail Fleming and husband David of the Woods Community, Susan Colman and husband David of Magnolia, and Patti Ballard and husband Bob of Old Center; two sisters-in-law, Jimmie Boland of Old Center and Lynda Schrank of Lufkin; four grandchildren, Regina Reese and husband Mike of Conroe, Brad Koonce and wife Michelle of Garrison, Trey Fleming and wife Amanda of the Woods Community, and J.D. Colman of Magnolia; nine great-grandchildren, Kelby, Keve, Kloe, Chance, and Morgan Koonce, Emily, Brandon, and Christopher Reese, and Rylee Fleming.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Men of the First United Methodist Church of Tenaha and Ray Foster.
