Funeral services for Mrs. Mary N. Cox, age 98, of Nacogdoches, TX formerly of Carthage, TX will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. A.C. Thompson and Mr. Joe Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. Mrs. Cox passed away on Monday evening, June 7, 2010, in Nacogdoches.
Mary Ellis Nichols Cox was born on May 5, 1912, in Diboll, Texas to Garland and Nancy Beulah Adams Cox. She graduated from Reader, Arkansas High School with the class of 1928. Mrs. Cox married A.B. Cox on Sept. 1, 1929, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1988. She worked as the post mistress for the Reader, Arkansas Post Office during WWII. Mrs. Cox moved to Carthage in 1973, from Homer, Louisiana. In 2001, she moved to Nacogdoches. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Carthage Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Nichols; three sisters, Inez Evison, Elsie Cox, and Helen Benton; her son, Gaylon Cox; and one daughter, Martha Cox Fuller.
Mrs. Cox is survived by one daughter, Nancy B. Cox of Nacogdoches; one sister, Thetis Henley of Granbury; six grandchildren, Sheila Rodrigues, Debbie Lewis, Steve Hallford, Christye Fuller, Jody Rodriguez, and Gaylon Cox, II; 19 great-grandchildren, including Adrianna Rodrigues, JohnPaul Rodrigues, and Clayton Rodrigues; and 1 great-great-grandson.
Serving as pallbearers are Maury Hudson, Gilbert Sims, Gaylon Cox, II, Rick Rodrigues, JohnPaul Rodrigues, and Clayton Rodrigues.
