Obituary

Mary Joe Briggs Wilson, 83, of the Rock Hill Community, passed away on Sunday morning, July 10, 2016, at her home in Rock Hill. She was born on Oct. 3, 1932, in Panola County, to the late Harvy and Ellen Mae Hardegree Briggs. She graduated from Beckville High School with the class of 1949, and attended Panola College where she graduated in 1951. She married Harold Weldon Wilson, Sr. on Aug. 30 1952, in Fort Worth and he preceded her in death on May 31, 2013. She attended TCU from 1954–1957, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science, a Master's Degree in Nursing, became an RN, and earned an honorary PhD. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson lived in Bedford for a few years before moving back to Panola County in 1968. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting and she was a member of the Goodtime Quilters Club. Mary Joe loved tending to her cows and enjoyed working as a rancher. She was a member of Rock Hill United Methodist Church. Mary Joe was also preceded in death by her brother; Johnny Ray Briggs and great-grandson; Conner Wayne Wilson Foster.

Survivors include her sons, Harold Weldon Wilson, Jr. of Beckville and Harley Wilson and wife Nita of Rock Hill; sisters, Mildred Coleman of Rock Hill and Nelda Reed and husband Billy Wayne of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Nathan Wilson and wife Hollie, Mandy Foster and husband Greg, Adam Wilson and wife Emily, and Weldon Wilson and wife Heather; great-grandchildren, Nate, Carley, Cadence, Katelyn, Nicholas, Winter, Wyleigh, and Will; brother-in-law, Horace Wilson and wife Pat of Edgewood; special family, Johnny Hosea and family of Irving and Jack and JoAnn Booth of Beckville; special nephew, Bubba Coleman and wife Edna of Beckville; and special great-nephews, Rusty Coleman and wife Nicole and Brent Coleman and wife Misty all of Beckville.

Mary Joe would like to extend a special thanks to her son and daughter-in-law, Harley and Nita for always being there for her and to Ashley with Texas Home Health Hospice for all the loving care and support during her illness.

A graveside service was held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016, at Wilson Cemetery in the Rock Hill Community with Bill Neff officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Rusty Coleman, Brent Coleman, Nathan Wilson, Adam Wilson, Weldon Wilson, and Greg Foster.

Honorary pallbearers were the Goodtime Quilters, Beth Parker, Mary Evelyn Kelly, Lucille Pelham, Virginia Pace, Maureen Briggs, Jeanette Evans, and Ruth Bristow.
