IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Frances
Allums
December 11, 1933 – June 11, 2021
Mary Frances (Sugar) Allums, 87, of Houston, TX, passed away on Friday June 11, 2021, in Houston. She was born on Dec. 11, 1933, in Houston to the late Lee Bisco and Euphia Maydell Cheeney Burke. Sugar attended Lamar High School and the University of Houston. She married the love of her life Aaron Larry Allums on Sept. 23, 1955, at the First Presbyterian Church.
Sugar was a devoted wife and mother of four children. Her devotion and love for her family was apparent as she always found the time and energy to make sure each child was able to participate in whatever activity of interest made them happy. She was a proud, supportive mother and a role-model. As her children grew older and began to move away from home, Sugar went back to school to pursue a rewarding nursing career at Memorial Hermann Hospital where she worked for 17 years until her retirement.
Sugar enjoyed a wide variety of arts and crafts and was an accomplished seamstress. She especially loved to cook and bake and was considered by many to be a true gourmet. She spent countless hours preparing family favorites for special occasions and loved to entertain a crowd. When Sugar wasn't in the kitchen or adding the finishing touches to a big project, she enjoyed working in the garden and had that special touch which allowed her garden to flourish.
Sugar's grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart with joy. She appreciated the uniqueness of each family member and simply cherished time shared together and conversations as they occurred.
Mrs. Allums lived her lifetime in Houston and was a member of Second Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Aaron Larry Allums of Houston; sons, Michael Allums and Geraldine (Geri) Odom of Flint, Robert Allums and wife Karen of Temple, and Kenneth Allums of Houston; daughter, Judith Kuczynski and husband Thomas of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many friends.
