Marvilene Hopkins, 87, of Carthage, TX formerly of Louisiana passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 2, 2021, in Tyler, TX. Eula Marvilene Underwood was born on Nov. 28, 1933, in Gandy, LA to the late Marvin L. and Nellie Arthur Underwood. She graduated from Florien, LA High School with the class of 1952. She earned her LVN in Shreveport where she worked as a nurse for many years. She enjoyed knitting and painting. Marvilene married J.K. Hopkins on July 13, 2007, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2017. Mrs. Hopkins was also preceded in death by her brother, Milton Underwood; sisters, Virgie Carr and Louise Brooks; step-mother, Jay Underwood; and the father of her children, Ray Merritt who passed away in August of 2020.

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her children, Victor Merritt and wife Denise of Carthage, Jan Merritt of Keithville, and Jeff Merritt and wife Karen of Keithville; brother, Lynn Underwood and wife Bernice of Minden; sister, Bonnie Salter and husband Ray of Shreveport; and grandchildren, Ricky, Tucker, and Sara Merritt.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Boone officiating. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
