Spanial, Sr.
June 13, 1940 – May 18, 2020
Martin G. Spanial, Sr. 79 of De Berry, Texas, passed away on Monday evening, May 18, 2020 at his home. Marty Spanial Sr. was born on June 13th, 1940, in Hazelton Pennsylvania. Graduated from Dobbins Vocational Technical High School in 1958, enlisting in the Marine Corps and attaining the rank of Corporal, participating in the Mercury Project, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Spanial married Roberta 'Butchy' Giannini, who precedes him in death and also his son Scott Spanial a West Point Military Academy graduate. He was an Auto mechanic for many years owning full service – service stations in Pennsylvania. He and his family moved to Florida in 1977 where he taught Adult Education in Sarasota Vocational Technical School for more than 25 years, preparing the next generation of auto mechanics in SAE Certification. He also earned a BS degree in Education during his tenure. In Florida he met and married Nancy Slaughter-Hogan. They moved to Texas in 2004 and as he used to say he is a Texan by choice.
Marty Spanial, Sr. is survived by daughters Kimberlee Aliapoulios and husband Mark of West Palm Beach FL, Sara Janes of Chicago IL; sons Martin Jr his wife Nancy of Odessa, Nick and his wife Amberley of De Berry, William Spanial of Conifer CO; granddaughters Clara Hodges and her husband Curtiss of Jupiter FL , Esther Ashton and her husband Wesley of Waco, Rachel Ohler and her husband Brian of Canton OH, Beverly Spanial of Odessa, and Victoria Spanial of Murfreesboro TN; and grandsons Robert Hanke of Milford DE, Samuel Beresford of Fort Benning GA, Colin Aliapoulios and wife Morgan of West Palm Beach FL, Marty Spanial III of Odessa, Clark Aliapoulios and wife Brooke of Boynton Beach FL, Paul Beresford and wife Abby of Meadville PA, James Spanial of College Station, Branson and Benjamin Spanial of De Berry; and three great-grandchildren.
Marty Sr enjoyed sailing, woodworking and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He passed quietly from this life and is now face to face with his Lord and Savior. II Corinthians 5:8
The family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to one of his favorite charities Bibles for Asia, or as it was once called Autumn Rain outreach to Asia minority villagers can make a donation by check, payable to Bibles for Asia, P. O. Box 1572, Fair Oaks, CA 95628. This important charity provides food and Bibles to people behind the bamboo curtain. Anyone who donates a memorial certificate will be sent with Marty's name and the name of the donor in appreciation for their gift.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel.
