Martha Ross McNeill, 95, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Sunday morning, Dec. 10, 2017, in Carthage. She was born on July 27, 1922, in Panola County, Texas to the late Alma Glen and Jessie Page Ross. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1940. Mrs. McNeill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. After WWII, she began working for the Central Arkansas V.A. Healthcare System in Little Rock, retiring in the 1970's. Mrs. McNeill married Elmer Emerson "Sody" McNeill on Nov. 9, 1963, in Little Rock and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1977. Martha was an avid bridge player and enjoyed needlepoint. She moved to Carthage in 1999, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. McNeill was also preceded in death by her step-son, Keith McNeill; brother, James Ross; and sisters, Kathryn Lawrence and Jane Walton.

Survivors include cousin, Sallie Lipsey and husband Don of Carthage; nieces, Liz Carder and husband Robbie of North Little Rock, Alice Ingram and husband Steve of Longview, and Susan Evans of Dallas; and nephew, James Ross Lawrence of Ft. Worth.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Otto officiating. A private interment will follow in Walton Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
