Obituary

Marie Cecelia McCune Singletary, 99, of the Del Ray Community in Panola County passed away on Friday morning, May 13, 2016, at her home in Del Ray. She was born on March 19, 1917, in San Antonio to the late John J. and Mabel Lee Nance McCune. She attended W.W. White School in San Antonio and won first place in the 1933 Texas UIL State Declamation Contest in Austin. Mrs. Singletary married Cleo Singletary on Aug. 10, 1935, and together they celebrated over 54 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1989. She had lived in the Del Ray Community for over 80 years where she was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and working picture and word puzzles. Mrs. Singletary was also preceded in death by her brother, John W. McCune; her sister, Irene Delia McCune; and son-in-law, Phillip Clerc.

Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Groves and husband Milford of Carthage and Cynthia Clerc of Austin; granddaughter, Kim Groves Cornelius of Houston; special niece, Gale Parker of Carthage; and a host of other nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Walton Cemetery in Del Ray with Perry Cowan officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Mrs. Singletary will lie in state for viewing from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
