Obituary
A funeral service for Marie Orr Crawford, 87, of Carthage, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with Pastors Keefe Cropper and Leah Hanks officiating. Interment will follow in Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Crawford passed away on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at her home in Carthage.
Thelma Marie Orr Crawford was born on Nov. 29, 1926, in the Waterman's Front Community in Panola County, TX to the late Henry Stanley and Thelma Carswell Orr. She graduated from Carthage with the class of 1944, and attended Business College in Kilgore. Marie married Roy Mills Crawford, Sr. on Apr. 12, 1946, in Beckville and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1997. Mrs. Crawford worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Craddock for many years before moving to LaMarque where she worked at John Sealy Medical Center in Galveston. She later worked in soil conservation in Temple. She and Roy moved back to Carthage in the 1980's and she was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Crawford was also preceded in death by her son, Roy Mills Crawford, Jr.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter, Connie Crawford of Shreveport; two sisters, Mildred McCrary of Carthage and Dorothy Culbertson of Greenwood; one brother, Stanley Arthur Orr and wife Ramona of Lumberton; daughter-in-law, Chris Crawford of Katy; 6 grandchildren, Andrea, Todd, Brian, and Mark Wilkinson, Tim Wehrle, and Ryan Mills Crawford; and 4 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Crawford.
Serving as pallbearers are Todd Wilkinson, Brian Wilkinson, Mark Wilkinson, Ryan Crawford, and Rod McCrary.
Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Stanley Orr and Tim Wehrle.
