Obituary

Margaret Bettevy, 92, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 16, 2020, in Carthage. Margaret Jerlene Guin was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Montgomery, LA to the late Asa and Carrie Ann Self Guin. She graduated from Montgomery High School and Louisiana College in Pineville with a nursing degree. Margaret married Cecil Jake Bettevy on Oct. 2, 1948, in Pineville. They moved to Carthage in 1952, from Alexandria, LA and Margaret went to work at Panola General Hospital as a registered nurse. She later worked for Drs. Cooper, Prince, and Smith. She retired from Schumpert Medical Center neo-natal care. Margaret was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Robert Lee Guin, Lisso Guin, Herschel W. Guin, and Verno Guin; sisters, Opal Bryant and Earlene Davis.

Survivors include her sons, Cecil C. Bettevy and wife Eileen of Shreveport and John M. Bettevy and wife Sharon of Heath; grandchildren, Adam Bettevy, Brett Hoang and husband Tien, and Ryan Bettevy and wife Kimberly; and great-grandchildren, Logan Michael and Aubrey Ann Bettevy.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. A private entombment will be at Restland Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice Plus, Miranda and Maxie; caregivers, Lynn Bergeron and Wendy Jernigan; staff at Winkler House; Dr. Suzanne Blake and staff; staff, nurses and doctors at UT Health Carthage; special friends, Hal and Elaine Palmer, Beth Golden, Judy and Chilton Stuart, and Bill and Sandra Rhorer; her loving church family; neighbors, Bob and Susie Cowen and Melissa and Bryan Turner; nieces, Mavis, Pat, Kathy, and JaNell; and cousin, Bill Coody.
