Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Maina Poss, age 90, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Burnaman and Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Poss passed away on Wednesday morning, October 14, 2009, at her home near Carthage.

Maina Francis Moore Poss was born on February 11, 1919, in Panola County, Texas to Lloyd Dewey and Delma James Bone Moore. Mrs. Poss graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1937. She married Jewel Poss on June 30, 1938, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2008. Mrs. Poss enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, cooking, and her animals. She loved her granddaughter and great-grandchildren dearly. Mrs. Poss lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage where she was also a member of the Happy Hearts Sunday School Class formerly known as the Fidelity Sunday School Class. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Poss is survived by two daughters, Jerrie Poss Davis and husband Larry D. Davis of Carthage and Stella Ann Poss of Longview; one granddaughter, Kellie Davis Peterson and husband Tres of Carthage; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Gibson, and Brooke and Blake Peterson all of Carthage. Mrs. Poss is also survived by her special caregivers, Barbara Floyd, Debbie Carr, Izora Graves, Patricia Taylor, and Donna Baker.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Melinda Qualls and the whole staff of Heart's Way Hospice in Carthage for the loving care shown to Mrs. Poss during her illness.

Serving as pallbearers are Charles Holmes, Bill Peace, Mike Bowers, Jerry Hudson, Bruce Maines, and Joe Ben Wooten.
