Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Blume "Sug" Pellum McGensey, age 87 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Shady Grove Baptist Church Longbranch with Reverend James Wall officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery Longbranch under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. McGensey passed away on Wednesday morning, August 29, 2007 in Carthage.
Mae Blume Pellum "Sug" McGensey was born on December 19, 1919 in Longbranch, Panola County, Texas to Armester "Nook" Pellum and Emmer Davis Pellum. She attended Shady Grove Community Schools and on June 28, 1948, she graduated from Texas College in Tyler with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She married Alfonzo McGensey in May of 1953. Mrs. McGensey worked as a teacher in the Brachfield School and later worked at East Texas Laundry and John & Helen's Cleaners in Carthage. She had lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Longbranch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Armester "Nook" Pellum and Emmer Davis Pellum; her husband, Alfonzo McGensey; two brothers, Carl and Obie Pellum; six sisters, Rillard Ann Pellum Castleberry, Delia Mae Pellum Davis, Mae Lee Pellum Crawford, Lois Pellum, Evelyn Pellum Thomas, and Roberta Pellum Sheppard; one son, Matthew McGensey; two brothers-in-law, Jesse McGensey and R.J. McGensey; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Hash.
Mrs. McGensey is survived by one son, Terry Joe McGensey and special friend Sheila Holt; one daughter Billie Pellum Goree; three grandchildren, Nova Shanae' Hayes, Matthew Elliott Goree, Raven Symone Jernigan; great grandchild, Imani Azariah Robertson; five sisters-in-law, Pearlean Shepard, Wyvorn Thompson, Goldie F. Bruner, Earnestine McGensey, and Celestine McGensey
Serving as pallbearers are Raydell Pellum, Roy Pellum, Willie Pellum, Lorenzo Beck, Charles Sheppard, Shannon Reeves. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Terry McGensey, Matthew Goree, Danver Pellum, Isaiah "Blue" Max Davis, Billy Davis, Raydell "Bo" Sheppard, Travis Bob Glasper.
