Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Pumphrey Richards, age 93 of Longview, Texas formerly of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Everett and Reverend Steve Jackson officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Summerfield Cemetery in Judson, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Richards passed away on Sunday night, August 17, 2008 in Longview.

Mavis Lucille Pumphrey Richards was born on January 5, 1915 in Prattsville, Grant County, Arkansas to George Franklin and Alice Douglas Pumphrey. She married Otho E. Richards on June 15, 1933. Mrs. Richards worked as a clerk at M & M Toggery for many years. Around 1951, Mrs. Richards and her husband established a library at the First Baptist Church of San Augustine and later established a library for the City of San Augustine. She was a longtime member of the Central Baptist Church of Carthage, where she and her husband established the church library in 1959. Mrs. Richards was also a member of the Silver Tones and the B.A.L.L. Club at Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on October 8, 2000; three brothers, Kenneth, Buell, and Herbert Pumphrey; and three sisters, Cozy Ashcraft, Mae Pumphrey, and Sarah Speck.

Mrs. Richards is survived by two sons, David E. Richards and wife Carol of Houston and Ralph W. Richards and wife Patsy of Longview; two grandchildren, Laura Cauley and husband Shane of Houston and Randy Richards of Highland Ranch, Colorado; and one great-grandson, Jacob Cauley of Houston.

Serving as pallbearers are John Crisp, Jim Huff, Jerry McMath, Bill Price, Jerry Bazer, and Alton Nutt.
