A graveside service for Mrs. Louise Murphy West, age 93, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carthage with Dr. William Everett officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. West passed away on Friday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2013, at her home in Carthage.
Louise Murphy West was born on Sept. 8, 1919, in the Dotson Community of Panola County, TX to the late James Roy and Mary Claty Britton Murphy. She married George Berry West on Oct. 21, 1937, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1995, after almost 58 years together. Mrs. West lived her lifetime in Carthage and was a longtime member of the Central Baptist Church where she sang in the sanctuary choir since 1933, was a member of the former Esther Sunday School Class and later the Faith Sunday School Class, played in the Heavenly Chimes hand bells, sang with the Silver Tones, and was a member of the S.K.I.T. Club. Mrs. West worked as a dental hygienist for over 44 years and was a member of the national and state dental hygienists associations. Mrs. West was also a member of the Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margie Baldwin; her brothers, Jamie Roy Murphy and Harold Lloyd Murphy; and one nephew, Kenneth Edward Baldwin, Jr.
Mrs. West is survived by one nephew, Jamie Roy Murphy, Jr. of Corpus Christi; niece, Donna Jean Tingle of Huntsville, AL; great-niece, Laura Hartman; great-nephew, Tom Ray Tingle; two great-great nephews, Michael Hartman and Austin Tingle; one great-great niece, Carlie Jeanae Tingle; two special cousins, Kay Bedenbaugh and Betty Bounds; her best friend and caregiver for over 30 years, Johnnie Collier of Carthage; and caregivers, Brittney Scott, Alvina Roberson, Jessie Tatum, and Aretha Lockett. Mrs. West is also survived by many other relatives and her devoted church friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Being a caregiver was her greatest joy in life. She was someone they could always turn to in a time of need.
