A funeral service for Mr. Louis Hicks, age 79, of Beckville, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Sammy Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery near Beckville. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Hicks passed away on Wednesday morning, July 17, 2013, in Marshall, TX.
Louis Hicks was born on Dec. 22, 1933, in Panola County, TX to the late Ralton and Elberta Jinks Hicks. He married Pauline Barryer on May 12, 1967, in Panola County. Mr. Hicks had his own secular business in the logging industry for many years and was a professional truck driver for Carthage Cup for 30 years. Mr. Hicks was a great provider. He worked from sun up to sun down. He would leave his place of work at Carthage Cup and go to work in his logging business. He loved blues music, westerns, cleaning his cars and trucks, playing checkers, and traveling from coast to coast as a truck driver. Mr. Hicks lived his lifetime in Panola County and was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Della Jinks; his parents; twin sister, Louise Hicks Shepherd; sister, Bobbie Jean Holland; two brothers, Perman and Neal Hicks; and four brothers-in-law, Romeo Holland, Ed Green, Willie Lee Jackson, and Joe A. Sheperd.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pauline Barryer Hicks of Beckville; five daughters, Sharon K. Hicks, Teresa Hicks Beck, Jennifer Hicks Holt, all of Beckville, Chakietha L. Hicks, Debra M. Hicks Sowels (Ray) of Dallas; one brother, Ralph Hicks (Nelva) of Beckville; three sisters, Cleo Hicks Campbell (W.C.) of Dallas, Maedesser Hicks Green of Tacoma, WA, and Bennie Lee Hicks Jackson of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Sharice C. Beck, Torre M. Beck, and Monique S. Holt; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Terrence Sheppard, Rodney Hicks, Michael Campbell, James Pruitt, Vernon Joe Shepard, and Alvin Hicks. Serving as honorary pallbearers are David Hicks and Joe Glenn Hicks.
