A funeral service for Mrs. Loretta Ewing, 81, of the Antioch Community in Panola County, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Arnold Shrewsbury officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Ewing passed away on Friday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2014, in Longview.
Loretta Virginia Nell Lakens Ewing was born on May 26, 1932, in Cumberland County, TN to the late Charles William and Susie Lucinda Golliher Lakens. She attended school in Rockwood, TN while she was growing up. Mrs. Ewing married James Edward Ewing and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1991. She loved quilting. She worked for Jordan Home Health as an aide for many years. Mrs. Ewing moved here in 1965 from Houston and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis Lee Miller and two sisters, Verlene Barber and Jannice Rocco.
Mrs. Ewing is survived by two sons, Robert Ewing of Carthage and Wayne Ewing and wife Christy of Carthage; two daughters, Terry Wells and husband Allen of Carthage and Christina Davis of Carthage; one brother, Charles Ray Lakens and wife Nelta of Crossville, TN; one sister, Loismae Peters of Knoxville, TN; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Ewing.
Serving as pallbearers are David Lawless, James Nail, III, Bradley Nail, James Nail, Jr., Cody Reynolds, and Steven Andrews.
