Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Barrera, age 94 years of Carthage, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2006 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Conner Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Barrera was called home on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 in Carthage, Texas after a brave fight with a short illness.
Lola B. Dees was born on March 27, 1911 in Many, Louisiana to William Lafayette Dees, Sr. and Callie Williams Dees. She was married to her longtime love Emeterio Barrera for 50 years. Mrs. Barrera moved to Carthage from Clovis, New Mexico in 1969. She was a dedicated homemaker who in her earlier years worked as an Ammunitions Inspector at the Red River Army Depot in Texarkana during World War II and the Korean Confilct. Lola was a strong woman who taught her children to become loving, independent, and strong by her example. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, and doing crossword puzzles. Lola's heart and soul went into raising a large family and her legacy lies in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. Lola was well loved and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband E. M. Barrera on July 12, 2005, three sisters, Hattie Brown, Nona Hall, and Faye Mathews; one brother, W. L. Dees, Jr. and three sons, Lonnie Pearson, W.F. Pearson and wife Doris, and James Pearson.
Mrs. Barrera is survived by her son, Don R. Pearson of Carthage; four daughters, Mary Brigdon and husband Floyd of Carthage, Molly Stinson of Athens, Kathryn Barrera of Carthage, and Andrea Price and husband Gary of Chandler; step-son, Earnest Barrera; step-daughter, Vivian Barrera; three sisters, Irene Sherer and husband Bob of Arkansas, Evelen Williamson of Lake Palestine, and Doris Clemmons of Millen, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; Numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and step-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Barrera.
