Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Mae Smith Davis, age 86, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carthage with Rev. Curtis Carroway and Bishop Hubert Owens officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery near DeBerry. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Davis passed away on Saturday night, November 14, 2009, in Carthage.

Lizzie Mae Smith Davis was born on June 30, 1923, in Panola County, Texas to Manuel and Lizzie Dickerson Smith. She attended Panola County Public schools. Mrs. Davis married Jefferson Davis on Aug. 23, 1952, in Galveston and he preceded her in death. She loved gardening. Mrs. Davis worked at Joe's Café for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Davis was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deadwood and later became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carthage where she was an usher and a member of the choir until her health failed. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, DeAngelo Beck; two brothers, Max Smith and Johnny "Green" Smith; and four sisters, Shirley Mae Tidwell, Octavia Adams, Deatric Brown, and Erie Bell Morgan.

Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Ruby Jean Brown of Carthage and Earnestine Beck and husband Lewis of Hawthorne, CA; one God-daughter, Lessie Stepter of Los Angeles; one sister, Iree Walton of DeBerry; four grandchildren, Lewis Beck and wife Savennia of Carthage, Anthony Beck and wife Jeannice of Long Beach, Chris Beck and wife Angie of Inglewood, and Denise Beck of Los Angeles; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Davis.

Serving as pallbearers are Charles Morgan, Bobby Moore, Freddy Wallace, Jr., Kelvin Morgan, Willie Perkins, Frederick Beck, Larry Graham, and Alex Walton, Jr.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Lewis Beck, Jr., Anthony Beck, Chris Beck, Orlando Beck, and Terry Black.
