Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Limon Thomas Ray, Jr., age 85, of Carthage, TX, will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Jimerson -Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Hudspeth, Pastor Dennis Landtroop, and Bro. Jonathan Hudspeth officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Deadwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Ray passed away on Thursday morning, Aug. 5, 2010, at his home.

Limon Thomas Ray, Jr. was born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Haynesville, LA to Limon Thomas Ray, Sr. and Maude Lou Seward Ray. Jr. was a faithful member of Kings Temple U.P.C. in Shreveport. He was church treasurer while attending Carthage U.P.C. He received the Holy Ghost on Aug. 12, 1946, at Bossier U.P.C. During World War II, he served as hospital corpsman in the Navy. Jr was on tour on the ship Aucilla in the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater, and the Philippians' Liberation. He received medals for his duties, and also the good conduct medal. After discharge from the Navy, he returned to work for United Gas Pipeline Co. in Shreveport, where he retired after 44 years. In May of 2009, he was recognized for serving in WWII by United Gas Pipe Line Co. with a plaque on the bronze memorial at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Juanita Parker Ray; his parents, Maude Seward Ray and Limon Thomas Ray; and one sister, Madeline Ray Cason.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife of 7 years, Patricia Pruitt Ray; son, Johnny Mack Ray and wife Gwendolyn LaGrone Ray; daughter, Beverly Ray Smith and Daniel Smith, grandchildren, Daphne Ray Alford and husband Donald Ray Alford and Devin Shane Mayhall and wife April Mayhall; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Ray Ezell; and five step-children.

Serving as pallbearers are Paul Ezell, J.C. Cason, James Allen, Donny Alford, Devin Mayhall, Gene Walker, Jack LaGrone, and Jerry Moore.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Harold Moore, Lewis Parker, and the Men of Senior Sunday School Class of Kings Temple UPC.
