Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Brooks, age 86, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Calvin Hancock and Bro. Travis Arden officiating. Interment will follow in Waldrop Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brooks passed away on Tuesday evening, Nov. 9, 2010, in Carthage.
Lillian Marie Nelson Brooks was born on July 8, 1924, in Nacogdoches, TX, to Thomas A. and Alice Susan Hull Nelson, and was 1 of 13 children. Mrs. Brooks moved to Panola County from Sudan, TX in 1938, and married William Forest Brooks on May 4, 1940, in Rusk County, TX and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1997. Mrs. Brooks worked at the Carthage Credit Bureau, Panola Insurance Company, and the Joffrion Insurance Agency. She attended and was an active member of the Brooks Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and also the Sharon Shrine Auxiliary. In her leisure time, she loved playing bridge, bowling, and traveling. Mrs. Brooks was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sammie Bell Brooks on January 29, 2005 and 10 siblings.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by one son, Carrol Brooks and wife, Dian of Waxahachie; two sisters, Jeanette Crnko of Houston and June Saxon of Carthage; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Wedgeworth and husband Aubrey and Margarette Young all of Carthage; two granddaughters, Cindy Hodges and husband Randal and Sonya Brooks all of Gilmer; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Brooke Hodges of Gilmer, J.C. Hodges of Little Rock AFB, and Steven Hodges of Scott AFB, IL; two great-great grandchildren, John and Makenna Hodges; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Nelson, Lynnwood Williams, W.A. Wedgeworth, Jr., Joe Button, Jim Gaut, and Jerry Hight.
