A funeral service for Lewis Wayne Claxton, 91, of Bonham, Texas, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home, 2022 North Center Street, in Bonham with Rev. Adam Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Gober Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Mr. Claxton passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Clyde Cosper State Veterans Home.

Lewis Wayne Claxton was born on May 22, 1923 in Gober, Texas to the late Newton James and Monnie Smith Claxton. He married Geneva Lucille Warren Claxton and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1999. He later married Joyce Workman Claxton and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2014. Wayne served in the 462nd Army Air Force Unit and was honorably discharged as Corporal in 1946. He attended Bartley Woods and Gober Schools, was a mechanic at General Cable for 28 years before retiring, and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman.

Mr. Claxton was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Wayne Claxton, Jr.; 2 brothers, Lindell and Glenis Claxton; and 4 sisters, Martha Nell Claxton, Nadene Hufford, Marjean Odum, and Sue Frailicks.

Mr. Claxton is survived by his son, Gary W. Claxton and wife Susan of Carthage; daughters, Janet McNease of Bonham and Jane Hall and husband Keith of Mulberry; step-sons, Rocky Lee Workman and wife Chau of Rowlett, Randy Carlton Workman and wife Beckie of Bells, and Terry Dave Workman and wife Patty of Seguin; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Compton, Dusty Compton, Todd Hall, Casey Hall, Adam Leggett, and Mitchell Skeen.
