Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Brown Jennings, age 96, of Tatum, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at her beloved church home, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church near Tatum with Rev. Roy Culley officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Tatum Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Jennings passed from her earthly life into the arms of her Savior on Friday morning, December 18, 2009, in Henderson.
Lela Bell Brown Jennings was born on October 5, 1913, in the Liberty Community of Rusk County, Texas to the union of Benjamin Franklin and Bell Jones Brown. She lived in that community until her marriage to Willie H. Jennings on September 26, 1942, when she moved to Tatum to the Jennings Homestead. She and Willie celebrated 66 years and 8 months of marriage there until his death in June of 2000. She was a charter member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church near Tatum, having helped organize the church in 1954. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Willard Posey; and two other siblings that died in infancy. Many other family and friends also preceded Mrs. Jennings in death.
Mrs. Jennings is survived by a nephew, Neil Posey and wife Madeline; a niece Genelle Goyen and husband Dan all of Victoria; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews on the Jennings side and her church family at Bethel.
Serving as pallbearers are Carlos Hunt, Tom Hutchinson, Joe Dale, Scott Hemby, Ty Goyen, and Chad Goyen.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert Reynolds, Roy Cole, Dan Goyen, Hubert Smith, and Fred Adams.
