Graveside services for Mr. Lawrence "Larry" McDowell, age 75, of Tatum, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Martin Cemetery with Rev. Ed Williamson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mr. McDowell passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at his home near Tatum.
Lawrence "Larry" Saye McDowell was born on June 1, 1935, in Tatum, TX to John Richard McDowell and Jessie Ruby Jean McDowell. He attended Beckville Schools and later attended Kilgore College. Mr. McDowell served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He married Melba Joyce Linthicum on Dec. 31, 1969, in Longview. Mr. McDowell owned and operated L&M Chemical Applicators a weed and brush control business in Longview for 15 years until his retirement in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers,
Billy, A.G., and Johnny McDowell.
Mr. McDowell is survived by his wife of 40 years, Melba McDowell of Tatum; two daughters, Debra LaStrange of Richardson and Laurie Cary and husband Lloyd of Palestine; two sisters, Gloria Bowman and husband Norman of Beckville and Carol Sue Waggoner of Longview; two grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson of Arizona and Brennon Jones of Palestine; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Jones, and Delani and Everlee Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Tommy Linthicum and wife Artie of Longview and Jerry Linthicum and wife Sue of Cushing; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Wade and husband Kenneth of Sacul and Jean Lloyd and husband Buddy of Timpson; and a special friend, Mary Williamson of Beckville. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. McDowell.
