Janie Hurt, 80, of Carthage, joined her heavenly father on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2018, in Tyler. Laura Jane Duke Hurt was born on Jan. 18, 1937, in Des Moines, IA to the late Sterling Eugene and Flossie Milizer Duke. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in Missouri with the class of 1955. She married Billy Marvin Hurt on Sept. 21, 1964, in Corpus Christi and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2014. She worked in accounting for H.E.B Grocery for over 28 years before her retirement. Mrs. Hurt moved to Carthage from Corpus Christi 24 years ago and was a faithful Baptist and a member of New Life Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a son, Samuel Joseph Hurt.

Survivors include her daughter, Dana Schimcek and husband Ray of Port Aransas; son, Timothy Hurt of Carthage; brothers, Richard E. Duke and wife Marlene of Orangevale, CA and H.S. Duke and wife Ann of Longview; grandchildren, Shelby and Christina Schimcek of Austin; and uncle, Joseph "Junior" V. Dicks of Comfort. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Hurt.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home in Carthage. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Comfort Cemetery in Comfort, TX.
