Obituary

Aaron Larry Allums was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday March 29, 2024. Larry was born on November 22, 1933 to the late Aaron Perkins and Garl Dee Allums in Carthage, Texas.  Larry's early years were filled with making new friends due to frequent moves within Texas and nearby states which suited his lively, out-going personality. In fact, most family vacations with Larry's children included the question, "Do you want to drive by the house where I used to live?" Larry graduated from Texas Senior High School in Texarkana, Texas in 1951 where he was involved in several clubs and was a proud member of the Tiger Band. During his later years, he enjoyed the annual reunions and Packard car shows with his high school classmates. Larry studied Business at the University of Houston where he met and married the love of his life Mary (Sugar) Burke in 1955, making their permanent residence in Houston, Texas.

Larry was a faithful man and a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston where he was a member of the choir, Prayer Ministry and participated in Sunday School classes. He loved to sing and was most proud of performing each year in the Christmas program. Larry always was willing to lend a hand and care for others. In his retirement, Larry volunteered at Memorial Hermann hospital visiting  patients and was frequently recognized for his dedication. Larry also worked for the Census Bureau during retirement as he received a lot of fulfillment meeting with people and helping them in what ever way he could. Larry was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed the backyard swim parties he and Sugar would host each summer. His smile was directly connected to the sight of his grandchildren as they brought him much joy. He was always the life of a gathering and loved to share his sense of humor but was also a good listener and adviser.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Aaron Perkins and Garl Dee and his wife Sugar. He is survived by his sister Gloria Barton, his son Michael Allums and Geri Odom, Bob and Karen Allums, Ken Allums, and daughter Judy Kuczynski and her husband Tom. Larry also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the staff at Meadow Lake for their love and care of Larry. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 12 o'clock at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home in Carthage, Texas followed by graveside service at 1 o'clock at Rehobeth Cemetery in Carthage.
