Lanell Choate, 79, of Carthage, passed away on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2016, in Henderson. She was born on April 27, 1937, in Woodville, TX to the late Robert E. and Phoebe Young Oates. Lanell graduated from Woodville High School as the Valedictorian of the class of 1955. She attended Tyler Business School. She married Leon Choate on June 21, 1967, in Arkansas. Lanell worked at Central Baptist Church and later for United Gas Pipeline, retiring in 1990, as the District Office Supervisor. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Brownie, E.L. and Elmer Ray Oates; and a sister, Shirley Woodcock.
Survivors include her husband Leon Choate; son Keith Hicks; daughter, Linda Martin and husband David McGuire; sister-in-law, Pauline Oates; grandson, Brad Martin and wife Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Sonora and Grady all of Carthage.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
