LaNell Bachtell, 86, of Tatum, TX, formerly of Brookhaven, MS, passed away on Friday night, Oct. 4, 2019, in Carthage. Roxie LaNell Smith was born on Dec. 27, 1932, in Brookhaven to the late Charles Butler Smith, Sr. and Lena Mae McClelland Smith. She graduated from Brookhaven High School with the class of 1955, and attended Mississippi Baptist College in Jackson, where she earned her registered nursing certificate. She worked for many years as a registered nurse until her retirement. Mrs. Bachtell married Harry Ernest Bachtell, Jr. on Aug. 18, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1984. She moved to Tatum in 1994, from Brookhaven and was a member of Church of the Living Waters in Tatum. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Elsie Merle Smith, Ruby Lee Musick, Helen Fowler, and Rita Louise Watson; brother, Charles Butler Smith, Jr.; son, Harry Ernest Bachtel, III; and daughter, Claire-Jo Antoinette Grimaldo.

Survivors include grandchildren, Annastazia Bachtell of Brookhaven, Irick Bachtell of Brookhaven, Harry Bachtell, IV of Brookhaven, Katrina Goldbaum of McComb, MS, and Anastasia Grimaldo of Tatum; great-grandchildren, Xzavier, Connor, Lilli, Eavenly, Emily, Alixzander, and Kahlan; one great-great-grandchild on the way; brother, James August Smith and wife Mary Nell of Brookhaven; sister, Frances Ileen Allred of Brookhaven; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Bachtell of Brookhaven.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Church of the Living Waters in Tatum with Bro. Gary Chambers and Bro. Elbert Jones officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Riverwood Memorial Park in Brookhaven, MS with Bro. Tim Bedwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the funeral service.
