Ed L. “Lamar” Coon, age 75, of Carthage, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday night, September 1, 2026, in Jacksonville, Texas. Lamar was born on December 2, 1950, in Jena, Louisiana, to the late Hazel Odell Hailey Coon and Earl Ray Coon.
Lamar graduated from Jena High School with the class of 1969. He married Kathy Elizabeth McMillin on June 11, 1971, in Jonesville, Louisiana. They shared 38 years of marriage before her passing on March 31, 2010. Lamar moved to Carthage in 1987 from Jena and was a former member of Murvaul Missionary Baptist Church.
After retiring from a career in the oilfield, Lamar enjoyed spending his time woodworking, fishing, and gardening. He took pleasure in working with his hands and enjoying the simple things in life, especially time spent with his family.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of life gathering from 2 - 4 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Frazier Cemetery in Nebo, LA for family and close friends at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
