L. F. Wedgeworth, Jr., 91, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, 2017, in Livingston, TX. He was born on Oct. 3, 1926, in the Dotson Community in Panola County TX to the late L. F. Wedgeworth, Sr. and Monnie Lee Griffin Wedgeworth. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1943, and earned a bachelors degree from Sam Houston State University. L. F. served his country in the U.S. Army as a rifle marksman during WWII and was honorably discharged. He married Barbara Jean Stage on Aug. 31, 1956, in Ft. Worth and she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2009, after 53 years of marriage. He worked at Sun Oil for many years, retiring in 1968, and continued his career as farmer and rancher in Panola County until his death. L. F. was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include his nieces, Vicki Bush and husband Gene of Livingston, Martha Nell Newman of Shreveport, and Kay Nix of Timpson; nephew, Mike Champagne of Shreveport; special friends, Monroe and Albert "Rabbit" Starling of the Dotson Community; and his beloved dog, Sugar.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Dodson and Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Clayton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
