Funeral services for Mr. L. E. McMellon, age 81 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mervin Scott and Pastor Betty Wills officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. McMellon passed away on Wednesday morning, November 12, 2008 at his home in Carthage.

Lewis Eddie Glenn McMellon was born October 30, 1927 in the Galloway Community of Panola County, Texas to Lewis Theodore "Buster" and Eunice Irene Creech McMellon. Mr. McMellon graduated from Logansport High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and was honorably discharged. Mr. McMellon went to work for Phillips Petroleum in Houston, where he was employed for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He married Betty Jean East on December 5, 1970 in Winnie, Texas. He moved back to Panola County in 1992 and was a member of the Galloway United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, who passed away on August 4, 2005.

Mr. McMellon is survived by his sister, Shirley Hamilton; one nephew, William L. Gatewood and wife Melinda; and one great-nephew, Chris Graham all of the Logan Community in Panola County.

Serving as pallbearers are Gary Creech, Larry Creech, Keith Creech, Stanley Creech, LeRoy Creech, and Denny McMillan.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Terry Creech and Grady Wills.
